mogojojo1013 's review for:
Bill the Vampire
by Rick Gualtieri
I discovered this author through the Authors and Dragons podcast he does. I had high hopes for this book and it just. Never got there for me. The first chapter is just the main character dying, and trying to remember what happened to him. It is weird and goes on for far too long. The whole thing feels very repetitive what with the author always feeling the need to shoe-horn thoughts of boobs and butts into Bill's internal monologue. Like we get it. He's an asshole. Move on. You don't need to tell us every time he notices a woman. Please. All the characters are jerks too, I get having imperfect characters or characters with flaws, but damn. None of the characters in this story are remotely likable.
The only thing in this that was redeeming for me was the idea that religion wasn't what affected vampires, it was the belief in the symbol that had the power. That was a cool and interesting idea. If it was more of that I would be happier.
There were a few times that it made me chuckle, but overall it was rather lack-luster.
It was also lame that Bill became the coven leader in the end instead of Sally. I get the reasoning, but that doesn't make it any less lame.
