Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness
4.0

This series, as a whole is really exciting and original and I love it. The characters are good, the central conceit - an alien world in which telepathy changes human society, leading to extreme misogyny and fascism - is daring and well-handled. If ithas a flaw, it's that the way the storyline is kept going through a series of out-of-character scenes. The big bad captures the hero but decides not to kill him for reasons that make no sense at all, as if he's trying to keep his nemesis alive so he can be defeated in the end. It flits on through page after page of this, and new impossible dilemmas come along tone after the other so that it's starting to wear a little thin by about half way through this, the third book, but don't let that put you off, because of all the teenage dystopian sci-fi series out there this is definitely up there with the best.
