Tomb of Sand by Geetanjali Shree

4.0

"He knew that a story cannot be locked into a box, or a canvas, or a gaze. So he never tried. On the contrary he always left a small window, an empty space, so the story could move on at will and take another path if it so desired."
-That's how the story moves in this book from beginning to the end, giving the narrative enormous scope to explore anything and everything along the way.

Two women -an old mother and her young
daughter, with their drastically different outlook towards life, keep the readers engaged in this seven hundred page long book. The narration, with its witty humour gives the book its lively touch.

Tomb of Sand, however, does test your patience at times. But if you manage to survive it, you get rewarded with some beautiful prose and some plot twist that comes naturally with the otherwise chaotic narration.

My takeaway from this book is the character of Amma that developed in the later part of the book, haunting yet beautiful.
