Absolute All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison

2.0

I was really excited about reading a take on Superman dying and grieving his life, his purpose and making the most of the last little bit. But instead we got a wacky all over the place story with a few moments of sincerity and heartfeltness. My main problem was the missing emotion.

Lex's moments were funny and good, and his conversations with Clark were wonderful. But we have Clark reveal his identity to Lois and she never believes him. Even in the end, she thinks he's only pretending to be Clark Kent and says goodbye to Superman. How am I suppose to be involved in their story and romance if Lois doesn't even acknowledge him for who he is. I was hoping for the cathartic moment where they have a goodbye and see each other for who they are. But nope. Outside of the
Lex scenes, we don't really see Clark (and a flashback of him losing Jonathan).

I am left with a lot of lack of potential, because there were beautiful and funny moments but they were fleeting and many of them would have had greater impact if they had of spent time on character as much as shenanigans. This could just me and what I like more or less about the story. For many this might be a great romp through his history.
