I cried.

The ending really tore at my heart. This is a heavy book. It takes place during WWII, so of course there were going to be some harsh realities written, but this is heavy. The entire story is told from death's perspective. It is a interesting viewpoint, and I actually liked it. Death is busy during every war. It is only fitting he would have stories to share.

I think the only thing I did not like about the book is the spoilers. I like stories to be revealed chronologically. Other than that, I would highly recommend this book to everyone. This is real. The story itself may be fiction, but WWII happened and the fear and death are real. People really lived this way. Hiding in basements. Hiding people. Seeing those they love die. This book made me cry and feel, and I will read it again when I am ready.
