This one is going to live rent free in my brain for a while. Most books don't do that, so it takes a special kind of something for it to do so. The last one to do it was The Lost Girls and it's bittersweet, pyrrhic ending. This one... well... there's a kind of supernatural connection between the two mains that's kind of like super-love. They're emotionally and mentally connected, always sharing their love for each other over a psychic connection. And my brain is like, 'yeah, I want something like that!' and the more rational part of me is like, 'no, you dolt, this thing doesn't exist.' This kind of led me to a spiral that I've been circling for a long time. I've been longing for a girlfriend or a companion for some time, but because of who and what I am, it's doubtful I'll ever get anybody with a meaningful connection. (I don't want to hear your platitudes on this. I'm just not in the mood for it.)
As for the book itself, it's really quite sweet. It's like, what if the Superman stand in and the Lois Lane stand in were both disaster lesbians. Add in queer dragons and dragon politics and time travel and you've got yourself a really good book. My only complaint is that it's too short. I really wanted to spend more time with all these characters in this world, but alas, all good things had to come to an end. This is one of the better books that I've read this year and I do recommend that you seek it out. It's also on Kindle Unlimited, so if you have that you have no excuse not to read it. 5 stars.
