The German Wife
by Kelly Rimmer
This is one that I will be thinking about for a long time. It was the book club pick for the readathon. Emotionally conflicting & thought-provoking, The German Wife shares the tale of two women worlds apart beginning in the pre-war 1930s until they meet in Huntsville, Alabama 20 years later. Ultimately the story is about Operation Paperclip, a controversial secret US Intelligence program that employed former Nazis, but it’s also about two women making incredibly difficult decisions in order to protect their loved ones.
Kelly Rimmer’s well-researched portrayal features vivid characters, a unique timeline, and dynamic writing. It’s the best historical fiction novel I’ve read so far this year! Highly recommend it on audio.
