vibeepboop 's review for:
Siege and Storm
by Leigh Bardugo
LOTS OF SPOILERS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
okay, this is gonna take a while, let's start with the parts that I did like:
nikolai lantsov
the grand duke of udova
the second son of this majesty
the bastard born son
NIKOLAI LANTSOV
this poor baby's back must be broken from carrying this entire book.
I did like the introduction of new characters like tolya and tamar. they were really interesting and a fresh change from mal and Alina.
the darkling was ever a delight and an intriguing villain, one whose cold and knows it but also shrinks from the look of a girl when she calls him evil, one whose terrible but could not kill his mother( a teeny mercy but its better than anything)
i did like banter and political scenes except for the fact the Alina acted like a sullen child almost constantly
now to the bad parts:
I'm honestly bored of characters like mal. he is good(blah) and apparently so hot( Nikolai anyday)
but he's sooooo boring and just plain annoying. especially when he shrinks away from alina (pathetic), not forgetting the fact that always has to stand up for her, give me a break, also the fact that he thinks he can pick and choose the parts he likes of her. GOD HE'S JUST SO PATHETIC.
now getting to alina, we pick off and she's just as annoying as the first book(honestly doesn't even try). the part when she slapped Nikolai was literally the first time I had any respect for her.
she should have at least tried to escape. darkling was right shes just too predictable. another fact is that shes annoying and sullen and she knows it, she doesn't try to change at all, even a facade would be nice, anything is better than ' oh i miss mal, i want mal, i hate the girls who flirt with him' or ' oh poor me i have all this power and I don't want it'. honestly the part, when she went dark, was so interesting. another time i had a semblace respect for her was when she tried to kill the darkling, knowing that she would die but mal had to come and rescue her, the book could have ended then and there, just kill mal off already!
though I do find her hilarious espicially in those imaginary letters.
okay don't kill me, I know this was written in 2012 or something and I'm reading it in 2020(only to figure out what the hell they were talking about in king of scars) but the love triangle, (enter booing and puking sounds) was infuriating. why can't alina just be alone for god's sake, why does she need to be with a pathetic stereotype like mal or a villain like the darkling and obviously not Nikolai( a golden treasure, she does not deserve him, he's needed for someone else, wink wink to everyone who has read king of scars). another thing, (im totally rambling now) but the whole zoya is a bitch thing is so...ugh....i cant deal with the 2012 drama.
honestly sounds like i hate the book but it was definitely better than the first and I'm now going to read the last.( hoping for more nikolai and the twins) fingers crossed for the best.
till next time...
