We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal
3.0
The overly flowery language of this book made it hard for me to get into and finish. The actual mechanics of the story were even lost sometimes because the characters were lost inside their own head and then the author takes 4 sentences and 3 metaphors to describe the heat of the desert.
The plot was very thin. A couple of the “surprises” in the book made me roll my eyes or were just really questionable. I wanted to spend more time building the relationship between the main group of characters rather than just having Zafira and Nasir lust after each other relentlessly without really knowing anything about the other person. The side characters were very likable.
The setting was cool and I actually liked Zafira as well, I just wanted a lot more from this book.
