What If You & Me by Roni Loren

5.0

This is my third book I've read from Roni Loren, and I'm finding that I'm not going to be disappointed when I read one of her books.

Out of the two books in the Say Everything series, I think this one is my favorite so far. You've got grumpy/sunshine, friends to lovers, neighbors, and a lot of spice in the kitchen and out ;)

This story focuses on Andi Lockley who we meet in the first book as horror writer and true crime podcaster. Andi's profession and obsession over true crime and safety comes from a dark past that is known to very few people in her inner circle.

When Andi moves, she becomes neighbors with the former firefighter Hill Dawson. Hill suffered a serious injury during a fire rescue, and as a result lost part of his leg while becoming a hero. He's in a dark place trying to manage his depression and figure out what value he has in life.

These two form a fast friendship but you can't deny the intense chemistry they have between them. Neither one wants a relationship. They both think they are not in the right place to have one because of their past traumas. Through their connection, Hill starts to see his value even with a disability. Andi starts to trust again and realize she might be able to have a real romance.

I loved how vulnerable this story was and how much honesty each character had when talking to one another. Roni really did a great job to show their challenges and the softness of opening up to someone, and the power it can have once you do.

Also who doesn't love a grump like Hill who is really just a full on cinnamon roll for the woman he loves?!?

This was a great read, and I loved how the disability in the book was written and dealt with along with the PTSD for both characters.

CW: PTSD, anxiety, depression, assault, internet trolls, stalking, physical disability
