I had this book on my shelves for a little while before I decided it was time to pick it up, but Valentine's Day is right around the corner and it seemed like a short, sweet read that would set me in the right tone. I'm not huge on romance when it comes to reading, usually. I like it when it's on the side, included in the plot of the story and used to build the main characters, but I rarely sit around reading romantic books. The summary of this one seemed unique to me, though, and I was really curious because most of the reviews were back and forth. It went from creepy to cute, so I decided I would make up my own mind about it.

This story is told from tons of perspectives, but none of them are the main two characters; Gabe and Lea. It's told from their friends, family, acquaintances, and even strangers. Two of the strangest perspectives were the squirrel and the bench. Yes, a squirrel and a bench had a perspective in this story. I most of all hated the bench because if benches actually had thoughts, I didn't like the way this one was told. A lot of the writing was super immature, and I understand it was Sandy Hall's first book, but I'm not really sure how it made it so far.

I like the idea of the multiple perspectives trying to bring together two people who are too shy to talk, but these people are in college. If they can't even talk to each other, then should they really be dating? They mostly base their affection off of how they look, because they rarely talk until the end of the story. It's like a little crush that could've passed, but instead it got made into a book about two people in love. I didn't really find their love believable. Plus, it was just weird how many people wanted them together. All anybody cared to talk about was Gabe and Lea. It got so tiring reading about them. In the end, I didn't even care what happened to them.

It was honestly just really cheesy and not in the best way. I like cliches and corniness at times, but this story just didn't do it for me. I gave it two stars because I liked the idea, just not the way it was played out. I hope Sandy Hall writes something different in the future.
