A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Set in Henry's favorite setting, Michigan or the Midwest, we see the story of January and Gus. Two writers who met in college, and have somehow wound up in the same small town, and are neighbours to boot.
Both authors write in vastly different genres and issue a challenge for one to write a romance novel, while the other is to write a contemporary grim fiction.
The story of January and Gus is compelling. Henry has a natural flair for chemistry between her characters. Presenting them with situations that feel real and relatable. She does a good job at fleshing out backstory for both January and Gus, and has a few heart-wrenching moments along the way.
