I expected to like this book because I liked the first one, but I did not expect it to be a five star read. It is a difficult book to read because it is a story about war and oppression. Sabaa Tahir's writing is fantastic. There were so many moments where I felt completely immersed in the story.
I love how she writes the villains of the story especially Helene who I would consider a villain. But Helene is still complicated and interesting.
I love the romance between Elias and Laia which to be honest, I did not care for in the first book. There were so many heartbreaking moments and shocking plot twists. I will definitely be continuing the series.
