Close Encounters book club random pick.
Davi is a woman transported into a fantasy world where she has to defeat the Dark Lord. If she dies, she is reborn at the same point. Hundreds of gruesome deaths and rebirths later, she gives up and decides to try being the Dark Lord instead. The story is how she convinces the supposed bad guys (orcs etc) to let her lead them.
Comedy fantasy, a bit slow in the middle - but like cosy fantasy, the story is based on day-to-day activities (like figuring out how to feed and move a horde of 1000 minions). It picks up near the end as Davi figures out all is not as it seems even after hundreds of rebirths. There's a great cast of minions / generals. The story is not complete and I think I will have to get the sequel.
