adventurous mysterious medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This could have been a good novella, but instead it's a book that gets so bogged down in describing every little thing that the characters feel, see, experience, remember, etc. that I sometimes lost the thread of the scene or the plot. This book did not understand the meaning of "show don't tell." The characters were so instantly attracted to each other that there was no build or tension. Also wtf does "golden skin" mean. It's a little wishy-washy in terms of description, like the author wanted to make the MC a POC but didn't want to actually commit to it.
