Read this with my kid, who loved it.  Kids (and parents) behaving badly then getting their comeuppance will always be fun to most kids.  Wonka's manic energy is entertaining and Charlie is a genuinely kind and likeable boy.  It was a fast and enjoyable read.

Parents may want to read through bits first, especially the songs.  I read it aloud and changed or skipped some words.  Being from the '60s, it's got some language that some may find harsh or too mean spirited.  Be aware if you care about such things.
