As far back as I can remember, I've loved books set in NY brownstones (was I brownstone tenant in a past life perhaps?) Couple that with a loving, eccentric family, and you get Karina Yan Glaser's debut children's novel. The Vanderbeeker kids have lived in their Harlem neighborhood all their lives. They love their home and their neighbors, so when the family discovers 5 days before Christmas their lease will not be renewed and they must move by New Year's, the kids make it their mission to change the landlord's heart and mind. A charming story that shows what a little determination can do!
