The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea
by Yukio Mishima
4.5/5 - The shadow of Japan's former glory, looming in bitter anticipation over the heads of a confused youth, alienated from their families and country, filled to the brim with nefarious, nihilistic tendencies. Mishima vents his frustrations with the post-war mentalities of his countrymen inside this grim and despondent narrative. Mishima's writing is often gorgeous, with an intricate simplicity that's just to die for. The man himself is fascinating, so I feel an urgent need to read more of his books.
