Fool Me Once by Hannah Gray
medium-paced
4.0
I am very much enjoying this series and all the characters. I loved Smith and Gemma, and truly wanted them to get their HEA right from the opening chapter!
Gemma escaped a horrible situation and being thrust back into the world of her first love was so hard for her. But, it gave them both the second chance then needed for multiple reasons.
Gemma’s story was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. It was emotional, raw and I loved the journey she took, ups and downs and all. Smith was there for her every step of the way and I couldn’t get over the sweet, supportive, patient and protective man he was.
Smith did everything he could to show her that she would be safe and cared for when with him which was fantastic.
She has trust issues with him, rightfully so, with how he hurt her in the past. As well as due to the trauma she experienced.
Smith has his own insecurities and hangs up about their past that he must come to terms with, but the man he is now is everything Gemma needs. He knew what needed to be done and to become to be the best version of himself for her. Smith has never stopped loving her, even when he never thought he’d get another chance with her. He wasn’t going to mess it up and had no plans to let he go, and had me melting with everything he did.
The tension between them is so high, especially at the start, when the anger and hurt Gemma has because of him is still fresh. But, the chemistry they have is next level. Their connection runs deep and I love how they see and understand each other so well. The way they steam up the page too was so great, these two are so open with one another, and creative!
These characters are such a great bunch, a wonderful found family in not only all the Bay Sharks teammates but the women too. They are just an amazing, and exactly the friends and extra support system Gemma needed.
I can’t wait for the next book!
