Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel

What a classic, and what a beautiful love story! A little bit ago, I did a #comfortreads post, and I would definitely add this to the stack! I've read this before, but it was such a long time ago, and I'm so glad I gave it a reread!

Tita is the youngest of three daughters, and it is family tradition for the youngest daughter to refrain from marriage in order to care for her mother in old age. Tita and Pedro fall in love, but because Tita can't marry, he marries her sister instead, just so he can be close to Tita.

When Tita cooks, her passion bleeds into her dishes. Her joy, sadness, anger, love...all become part of her meals and affect those who eat them.

I love how Mexican dishes form the story's structure. There are 12 chapters, one for each month, and each title is a dish Tita makes for that month's special occasion. Each dish tells part of her love story with Pedro.

This is a Mexican classic, and I hope you find yourself picking it up and enjoying the read!
