Unmasked: My Life Solving America's Cold Cases by Paul Holes

dark emotional informative fast-paced

5.0

I can't believe this is a Non-Fiction! It definitely doesn't read like one and I flew through this one.

Even though true crime is morbid and showcases the true evil that surrounds us all every day, it is a fascinating subject. I couldn't, however, be personally involved in being up close and personal with these crimes. So much respect for those that do, and work hard to solve cases and bring closure to those that need it.

Unmasked is a very well-written account of Paul Holes and his career in solving crime. I absolutely loved reading of his early days and how he even got started on this path. I also love how open, honest and vulnerable he is. He doesn't hide the flaws or hold back the truth of how devastating this type of work can be, not only for himself, but his family.

If it wasn't for people like him, cold cases like the Golden State Killer, would stay just that. His tenacity and determination is honestly amazing. I wouldn't have minded this being a little longer and more in depth, but as a whole this was great and I highly recommend this for true crime fans.
