Thought-provoking. I liked the author's use of the historical perspective throughout the book. The novel is homage to the adage that absolute power corrupts absolutely. One the main themes of this book is that anyone who has unchecked power believes they are entitled to sample the sexuality of anyone they choose, from a touch of the knee to violent rape. The novel is depressing in the fact that there is no balance - whether the world is run by men or it is run by women, it's essentially a shitstorm of harm, betrayal, chaos, fear, and pain with dollops of happiness being few and far between.
