Daughters of Izdihar was one of my favorites the year I read it. I loved it for the authentic female characters, the action driven by relatable character motivations, but with a fun element of magic thrown in. The magic and world building and action drove the plot that felt so real.
The Weavers of Alamaxa had the same feeling of sisterhood, but it was much heavier on the action. The action drove the characters this time and it felt more like any other fantasy book. The original motivations and goals were far secondary to an all out war. Constant or decisions that didn’t match what we learned of them in book one were the driving forces behind the plot. It was go go go go go from page one but it didn’t feel as authentic to the book one world.
The strengths of this book were still showing such good female friendships and strength in numbers and diversity of women. The magic system is very fun and fitting (even though there was a random twist at the end that felt rushed).
