This book was incredibly hard to get into and was filled with misogynistic/homophobic lines and scenes that made me wonder if Brown was making them intentionally as world-building or if it was his own unintentional biases creeping in. I also personally don’t enjoy reading about rape and it was pretty present so reader beware. Some of the themes/metaphors were handed to the reader clunkily and felt spoon-fed into me. However, through the scoffs and all the notes I angrily wrote into the margins, I was still overall pretty entertained by this book written by a white millennial man.
