Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

adventurous inspiring mysterious tense slow-paced

Most of this book, I found these characters pretty boring. They came across as very bland. Particularly Raodin. Serene was more interesting, but also more annoying. The characters grew on me a little, but it shouldn’t have taken until the end of the book.  All in all, this book was a bit of a slog for me. I continued reading for the Cosmere  implications. It’s much more political and not as action packed as other Sanderson novels. That being said, the political world building is amazing, and there are some really interesting things going on. For instance,
Elantrians not healing is pretty awful. Also the Aons going mad when their masters become Elantrians is cool. I also liked how the magic was tied to the location; to the land itself.
The pay off is pretty good in the end, but not as good as The Way of Kings.
