The Fall Out by Jenni Bara

5.0

I have been waiting for a book like this. With a slow burn, low angst friends to lovers romance. The fact it started as a one night stand just made it seem all the more real why Chris would intentionally friend zone himself. He really was taken OUT by her from the beginning. This is an acts of service guy, and I love it. And for Avery's part, she really must have been with losers before, to not be able to recognize how someone behaves when they care about you. She's too smart of a girl. A little lacking in social awareness and self reflection maybe.

While I was reading, I was at the 85% mark and realized there had no further sexy times since the opening (well, the shower doesn't count). And thought to myself - I barely even noticed that, because I am so invested in just the story of Chris and Avery as friends, and supporting each other as friends do. So when it finally started to happen, I felt the swoony anxiety building - and its been a loooooong time since a book has been so pronounced in the swoons for me. As I was finishing the book, I thought to myself, this is the best F2L I've read in recent memory.

I enjoyed the bits of the shared world with the other Mom Com authors, noting the similar places and events from the other books.

AND - my final note; PUFFINS!!!! And oh ya, this is a baseball story - he's the hothead pitcher and she's the coach's daughter. But minor details truly - the story was perfect.
