How to describe this book? Complicated feels like the best word!! First off all don’t try to read this book if you haven’t read the first book (Knotted) of the series. You absolutely need to- you need it for the plot line but also to understand a lot of the characters and the relationships between them. Also check your trigger warnings. This is definitely a dark romance and the spice is 👌 but will not be for everyone.
Jarret as the MMC is the epitome of angry, traumatised cowboy. He is written well and I found I desperately wanted to rescue him. I struggled more with Maybe as a FMC. I really wanted to like her but at times I just found her frustrating and annoying but I can’t really explain why.
This book presents as it’s going to be a really good enemies to lovers but the enemy part does last for long. I was expecting Jarret to be a bit darker as a character based on how he presents at the start of this book and the 1st book and whilst he is obsessive and dark throughout he does loose some of the edge I think.
There is a 3rd act breakup which wasn’t exactly what I was expecting and wasn’t my fave if I am honest but I enjoyed the dark cowboy coming out again. I feel like I wanted more of this in the book and had expected more of it having read Knotted.
Buckled as a book sets up the 3rd book well at the end and I will definitely read it. I am hoping that Lorne can be the perfect dark and brooding MMC and Raine can be the ultimate feisty and strong FMC.
