Beauty by Sheri S. Tepper
2.0

My first Sheri Tepper, but I understand I should have chosen a different one. Beauty is a great character and I'm a sucker for fairytale inspired books, but this story holds several of my biggest squeaks. I managed to avoid thinking too hard about the time travel problems, the religion or the the whole "fidipor" thing, but then the the banana republic trope showed up. Granted that it wasn't a simple banana republic, it was a Garcia-Marquez inspired one, and it had An Important Point To Make, yet it still feels like a white woman poking fun at some things that are actually pretty terrible. After that I wasn't in the right frame of mind to read this book, as every slightly weird thing made me drop it. As of now, I'm not sure I could ever possibly return to this author.
