This work is perhaps one of the finest written in English literature, the author not only gives us a superior story but her knowledge of the language and vocabulary are indeed extensive. Her characters are so well written and described they come to life from the pages in the book. I was slowly drawn into the story and it held my interest right through to the final thought. Not a quick read by any means but much pleasure is derived from reading slowly and thoughtfully. Much of the discourse between the characters is spoken in French, which I am sadly ignorant of, but I was still able to follow the work none the less and by way of “hints” and reference could understand their meaning.
