I’m so torn on what to rate this. On the one hand, I did enjoy reading it, it kept me interested. This is a short, simple story. But the writing just isn’t good. There were countless spelling and grammar mistakes, one even naming the completely wrong character. I’m usually not one to correctly guess twists but I got every one of these except for one at the end. I think the story tries to do way too much, but it isn’t properly developed and all feels really surface level. Every character in this story is an awful person and is super unlikeable. Also, there is no thrill in this whatsoever. The whole plot about her being their nanny doesn’t actually start until 50% in, so for the first half it’s just the characters repeatedly doing shitty things and complaining. This book is equally trying to do too much, with nothing really happening, everything is just conveniently connected and it’s not really even about this child at all. I think I’ll try one more of this authors that I’m interested in, but this was nothing special, the definition of lacklustre.
