I really enjoyed this book, but I'm glad that I did the audiobook version because I could definitely see feeling like it was extremely long and slow to read. I personally feel like if you're going to slow a story wayyy down, you have to make sure your prose is interesting and worth it, and I think that was accomplished for the most part here. The kind of meandering narrative reminded me of One Hundred Years of Solitude, and I think there's an argument that this book could fall into the magical realism lite genre. I would read this author again, which is cool because I usually have really different taste than the Pulitzer panel haha
