False Step by Victoria Helen Stone

Read via Kindle First Reads

Not my go-to genre, but I do enjoy a good thriller and of the First Reads option this month this had the synopsis that caught my interest the most.

Unfortunately I found it rather bland and pedestrian. I got 70% of the way through and realised that I was not particularly engaged with either the plot or any of the characters and very little seemed to have actually happened. It's not always necessary for the main character to be likeable, but I found Veronica two-dimensional and cliche. I hate to leave books unfinished (with the notable exception of Anna Karenina) so I did keep going to the end, but the 'twist' was rather obvious early on given the limited cast of characters. There were also a couple of editing errors including a duplicated paragraph.

Overall an ok read, but not paticularly memorable.
