Loretta Lynn: Coal Miner's Daughter by Loretta Lynn, George Vecsey

3.0

It's a long time since I saw the movie of this, it seems, and even then it felt like I'd taken too long to get around it, so I may have to watch it again now I've read the source because I can't really remember how much of the book made it to the screen. Anyway, what struck me most here is she's even kookier than I thought. Loretta Lynn is one of those people I really want to like, and generally do, but she makes it pretty hard sometimes. There's a lot here to raise just about anyone's eyebrows, but her unapologetic country style is very infectious, even inspiring. The audiobook reading by Sissy Spacek is a must. I kind of wish Goodreads had half stars for books like this because 3 is too low but 4 would be too high for now.
