Blood Sins by Kay Hooper

It was a very quick and fun read though. Sadly it’s not the first in the series so maybe if I had read that before this one, I’d know more about Haven, a group of civilian psychics who work hand in hand with the Special Crimes Unit of the FBI which, you guessed it is also all psychic. (okay technically there are many books before this, since Bishop had three trilogies dedicated to him and Quinten has two or three books but there might be only one with them all together…)

In this, you’re dropped in media res into a cult Tessa, Sawyer, Bishop, Hollis, and a few others are checking out a psychic cult leader, Samuel and one of his main helpers, Ruth. We’re thrown in as two operatives are being hunted to death by Samuel’s men for sneaking the kids out of the cult compound. Enter Tess, set up as a recent widow with land the cult would want. She meets Sawyer, local sheriff and possible assistant in bringing Samuel to justice. Easier said than done, when he is a powerful psychic not to mention there could be a mole in the team. What is very clear, Samuel is collecting psychic children and possesses the power to kill them with seemingly a mere thought. It was exciting but at the same time superficial. I definitely felt like I was watching from the outside
