A lady knight and damsels who get things done are something I love. The two main characters being love interests? Even better!

The beginning had me hooked. I loved the humor and the Ella Enchanted sort of modern in fantasy/medieval world vibes. Gwen and Isobelle are such fun characters with great depth and even better chemistry. I could easily imagine this world as a movie!

As much as I liked the beginning, the middle sort of waned for me. The book felt a little too long to get to the point. I wanted more knight action and less meandering. Though, once we reached the competition, things moved along nice and fast. The end really got me, it was so cool.

The messaging was pretty heavy fisted, but hey it seems like we need that these day because my god the social climate rn is pretty backwards. Besides, it is YA so I’m sure a lot of young readers will pick this up as their first feminist novel.
I wish there was more development with Orson, so we could better feel his betrayal, but I get why there’s a lack of male characters.

When the book was winding down I felt like there were some unanswered questions and plot points, but it looks like there may be another book, so yay! I’m excited to see what’s to come for these two :)
