Going Down Hard by Carly Phillips

4.0

Derek West grew up having a thing for Cassandra “Cassie” Storms. You can tell when an author is good at their craft – can’t stand her father or her brother. Toward the beginning of the story, they treat her more as an accessory instead of a valuable family member. It shows that being a jerk crosses social barriers. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I loved Derek’s friends. They have his back and don’t mind calling him out either. Cassie isn’t willing to take how the men in her life treat her sitting down. For me, her mother seemed mostly absent from her life – the true rich woman lifestyle.

My disappointment came when I realized how quickly this story moves along. Even though I took breaks and read slowly, the pages just seemed to move too quickly. I tried but the end kept creeping closer and closer. But there are two other books that have come before this one so I can still get my author fix as well as see what the other bad boys were all about. And this will pass the time until Going In Deep comes out.

Ms. Phillips is the perfect adult storyteller. She knows when to create tension, when to create heat, and just the right moment to take it to the next level. She also has a way of giving her characters problems but nothing that they can’t handle together. The ending doesn’t give the reader an HEA but it does sound like it gets you ready for the next book. Something else this author is good at – teasing her readers.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
