I'm biased right out the gate - I love black love.
Getting that out the way, I really liked the basis of the story, and I especially loved Cory and Cori. I think them having the same nickname was cute, and I think they had a great friendship that built to a good relationship with good chemistry. The writing was great, and it felt like a distinctly Black voice, which I absolutely loved.
The thing that put me off the most was how rocky their relationship was towards the end of the book - I didn't really get the miscommunication or the disagreement between the two. The app seemed completely inconsequential to me. It didn't seem to have had a huge impact on Cori's life other than a few coincidences, so I am unsure why she placed so much emphasis on this app. I understand that her deceased friend made it for her (but I'm not quite sure of the logistics behind it; my eyes kind of glossed over the explanation because I didn't really care as much as the book wanted me to). It seemed like conflict for conflict's sake, and not genuine conflict. Although the makeup scene with his data article concluding that he was in love with her was just too cute.
Be forewarned, though - this is a clean book. No sex scenes, even though they're clearly having sex. If this book had some explicit scenes, I probably could've forgiven the miscommunication trope. While I enjoyed this book (most of the time), I can't see myself rereading it. Overall 3.5/5
