The Do-Over by Lynn Painter

adventurous funny lighthearted slow-paced
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes

3.5

this book is absolutely torturous. while painter made her own brand with BTTM, this book does everything in its powers to bring it down. the characters are insufferable, and while the book has multiple swoon worthy moments, painter is trying too hard to make them "THE COUPLE". The chemistry seems very superficial, with the mmc falling for the fmc despite knowing her for only a "day", making him share the entirety of his personal life, his "story", his agony, despite being the "secretive and anti-social" person.
the novel big-time deviates from the central idea of a day-loop, majorly centric over the DONC, which makes it tougher to read as we see the characters making absolute bad decisions (spoiler: stealing and speeding a car, 7 worded tattoo, an obvious self-invitation to detention)
in a world where i had to reread this book to save my life, i know i wouldn't die, but in a world where i had to reread this because i ENJOYED it? no.
the last 25% of the book was fairly nice (hence the 3.5 stars), with a good clean-up, a movie like romcom ending.
but overall, i expected better.
