Fascinating. This was recommended to me as good family road trip listening, but it was not a hit with my crew (and is longer than the drive to Yellowstone and back), so I gave up. So glad I took the time to go back and finish. The chapters on whale (and elephant?!?) songs were my favorite, along with the conclusion. I was expecting there would be an ecological point about lost habitats, and the description of the global loss of darkness and silence was very moving. I was not expecting an impassioned warning about the danger of only valuing wilderness that is majestic (even now there are no national parks in the grasslands), ignoring the value of the simple and common.
