This was a joy to read. It was exciting even though I guessed part of the ending. Carrie wasn't an ordinary likeable hero, but I was still rooting for her all the way. I liked her relationship with her father and enjoyed their scenes a lot.
I suspected that she wasn't going to win her final match because it seemed that that wasn't the kind of story TJR set out to tell. I felt that she was more interested in Carrie's growth as a person than her achievements in the tournaments. What I didn't see coming, but felt totally meaningful and convincing, was her becoming a coach herself, and I was moved by her final comments about teaching someone to the best of your abilities and then letting them go and make their own decisions.
The details of the matches might become blurry soon, but Carrie Soto is a memorable character that will stay with me.
