The Distant Echo by Val McDermid

3.0

The book is split in two halves, the first follows the main characters on the advent of a murder they all become suspects in. The second half follows them 25 years later. I loved the first half, the pace was pretty good, the characters were interesting and I wanted to see what happened next. However. The time jump honestly severed any connection I felt with the characters and with that gone there wasn’t much else to hang on too. The plot felt a wee bit far fetched from then on and I finished the book mostly just to finish it. I’ll be giving some of the authors other stuff a go though, cause I think there’s potential. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if we’d stayed with the events of the past and solved the case then. Or failing that if there was the present day interspersed with the past to keep the reader guessing more and keep up the suspense.
