Lord of the Flies by William Golding

5.0

I first read this book in my sophomore year of high school but considering I wasn't much of a reader, I barely read it and wasn't very interested. The only scene I was able to recall was the unfortunate death of Piggy (who is now one of my favorite characters in literature thus far).

After reading it again, I'm confident in saying that this book disturbs me. It reminds me a bit of Animal Farm in the sense that we see a sort of civilization progress while we're spectators. The schoolboys however aren't really pushed too much by outside forces except the forces of hunger and the need of rescuing, while the farm animals were pushed by their hatred of humans.

If you weren't forced to read Lord of the Flies in school, I highly suggest it if you're okay with being uncomfortable.
