This is one of the most memorable pieces of fiction I've ever read. From the beautiful descriptions to the mental image of children led by wolves attacking a jail, I wholly recommend this book for older children.
"Her face was built on the blueprint for snow leopards and saints."
"He didn't dance like a solider, or like a sharp-wristed child who couldn't light a fire. He danced, Feo though, like a lost boy found: like a victory parade."
"At last the children stood back, leaving Feo in the middle of the ballroom, with two wolves at her sides. 'That,' said Alexai, surveying their handiwork, 'is the stuff fairytales are made of.'"
