I wanted to love this book and also as the book calls the readers out on needing something from stories, it feels wrong to be critical. Yet at the same time, maybe exactly that's why I have issues with it..

The writing was beautiful, and the story has potential but it needed more editing. There are time-jumps that make the story confusing and the ending makes no sense to me, the revelation is quite flat.

As we see so little of the characters and their motives, the story is flattened to be full of clichés. It is not relatable for its blandness, not for its specificity - that the book alludes to - which is a shame.
I wanted to read more, expanding on older generations, other perspectives that complicate the situation, as the promise of it was there. I wish this book was twice this long.
