I really struggled with the pacing of this book in the latter half, I kept wanting a break from Diane's hardships and a return to a hopefully brighter future for trans women in the relationship of Gala and Caroline.
Not only did we stay with Dianne for what felt like an eternity, the pain and self sabotage in Gala's story, which found no relief in Dianne's redemptive return, was a bit overwhelming on the sadness for me.
I did generally like the epistolary format of the book, though I found it hard to understand what was real and what wasn't, and what I was supposed to take away from that uncertainty.
