This is a slim little volume, but Vo immediately embraces you with a vibrant world where legend comes to life and the fantastical is made mundane. It is a feminist story, of one woman rising up to take the place and power owed to her. It is clever, heartwarming and heartbreaking, and filled with the warm details of recollection. It is a satisfying magical history—it's truly amazing what lore Vo can create and make legendary within barely 100 pages. It felt lush, full of texture, color, and history. Lovely!
