I knowww I’m going to be in the minority here, but this book never really managed to grab me. Which is strange, because it seems like my ideal story - but I never latched onto any character, and man, it felt like a chore to pick up.

The book is at its best when describing the setting - the imagery of the island and bog is visceral and intimidating. And for all my gripes about the book, it did stick the landing very well. It was well-planned and -plotted, but it lacked a certain oomph that I like from mysteries.
