A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
dark
emotional
sad
I think I need time to digest this book fully before I can give it a rating. It’s a beast of a book (814 pages) and is filled with about every trigger warning possible.
I read an interview from the author that describes the goal was to make an “ombré cloth” book-starting out light and ending it darkness. The author accomplished that for sure…this book gets sadder and sadder the longer you read.
I’m not sure if I feel like Jude’s friends are incredible for always being there for him or if I hate them for not trying to help him more. Some parts seem unbelievable or just over the top.
The story is told in a way where you’re clearly missing information, don’t worry, you’ll learn it later. It started picking up around 50% of the way through. I found Jude’s history as a child the most interesting.
This is a book that you read and won’t forget, but I’m not sure I’m in love with it.
