I’ve seen this book everywhere - in bookstores, in the good/greatest/must read and whatnot lists - and its quotes of life, love and dreams are often shared in all platforms imaginable. After reading it, i can understand why it is highly praised (and it definitely deserves) - The Alchemist tells a simple, nice story with messages that most people can relate to. Most who have read it says that this book is an inspiration especially in helping them to realise their dream or life calling - while i think that things that inspire us are actually personally individual and different and we cannot expect a mere book to change our lives, i do understand and agree on why this book resonates well with the crowds (cuz i’m one of them!)
What i truly love and appreciate while reading this book is the fact it incorporates mysticism and spirituality in a simple, accessible and non mind-bending ways. These elements through its story and messages, speaks to me volume because as someone who believe in spirituality and that there is a deeper connection between ourselves and the universe, everything told in this book is actually believable for me - the way Santiago heads his way to achieve his dream and overcome the adversary by following the ‘omen’ , how the universe will guide you to the right decisions when you understand the ‘Language of the World’ and all the other story parts which some people may decide to just view them as allegories or symbolism of philosophy.
Despite this book being popularised as a piece to help you in realising or following your dreams or true potential, i personally believe it doesn’t tell you to do so but to actually consider the options life may offer you and decide what is best for you along the journey of life - there is even no judgement in this book whether one does or does not follow their dreams. Take one side but elementary character for example where he said the reason he does nor follow his dreams is because his dreams is what keep him alive and fulfilling it may result in him not wanting to live anymore.
With powerful universal message communicated in easy and simple writings, this book has now got a special place in my heart. My advice is to open your heart and mind if you decide to read it and not just see it as a simple adventure story - and you will sure to be transported into a whole new universe 😉
