The Alchemaster's Apprentice by Walter Moers

4.0

You know this is going to be interesting when the title page credits the author as Optimus Yarnspinner, "translated from the Zamonian and illustrated by Walter Moers who German text was translated into English by John Brownjohn."

So we have a Zamonian world where several stories take place, told by Optimus Yarnspinner (from The City of Dreaming Books). We have a creative, crazy fairy tale world inhabited by new, yet familiar, creatures.

I've read two of them, and will start on Captain Blubear soon. These are just delightful. Suitable for all ages, there's enough crazy to engage children and enough depth to keep adults enraptured at this world.
